East Zone A*STAR Science Fair Competition@VJC (16th & 20th July 2018)

The EAST ZONE A*STAR SCIENCE FAIR 2018 is hosted by the East Zone Science and Technology Center@VJC. It is part of the centre’s effort to inspire and create greater interest in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math in the newly revised STEM Festival (formerly known as Science Carnival@VJC). 

There are 3 categories to the Science Fair:
♦ East Zone Category
– Open to East Zone Sec & East Zone IP schools (sec section) only

♦ Open Category
– Open to all Sec & IP schools (sec section) from other zones

♦ Lower Secondary Category
– Open to all Lower Sec teams from all zones


Total Number of entries per school is limited to maximum 4. 

The aim of the Science Fair is to give students the experience of conducting an investigative science project and provide students with a platform to exhibit and share their findings with others.

SST submitted 4 teams of Science Research project that our students have completed as part of their Investigative Skills in Science Programme. They were:

Investigation of the efficiency of different types of shoe soles (Presented to the audience)

Investigation of the effect of area and mass on the terminal velocity of a toy parachute (Gold Medal in Lower Sec Category, Presented to the audience) 
Foo Lin Hui (S2-01)
Xee Zun Kye (S2-01) 
Tan Zheng Xiong, Matthew (S2-01)

Investigation of the effect of baking soda on the fluffiness of the muffin (Presented to the audience) 
Lam Yan Yu (S2-04)

Investigation of the concentration-time profile of different types of coffee
Jia Zeyu (S2-01)
Qin Guan (S2-01)
